Calling all creative minds and lovers of literature! This camp will help young writers find their unique voice and express themselves through narrative, poetry, nonfiction, visual arts and even theatre. Students will tackle a unique writing challenge each day, with some imagination-boosting activities to improve their vocabulary, grammar, and sentence building skills! Students will explore contemporary styles and authors, collaborate with their classmates, and research new horizons to inspire their creative spirit and discover their inner writer.

Reading & Writing Galore

Students will use literacy to express themselves and explore the natural world

Each day this camp offers students a new theme to explore: from “All About Me” on Monday, “Spring Senses” on Tuesday, “Opinions Galore!” on Wednesday, “Silly Sequencing” on Thursday, and “Storytelling Skills” on Friday. Our experienced instructors will provide a supportive learning environment to guide students through a variety of hands-on learning activities such as self-portrait reflections, opinion formulation, appropriate writing techniques, grammar, reading comprehension, and story re-enactment.

Novel Study Camp

Our Novel Study Camp is designed for students to understand literary elements and higher comprehension of a chosen novel in a small group setting. This camp will help students develop a variety of critical thinking techniques as well as gain an understanding of comprehension strategies and text analysis. An appropriate novel will be selected to ensure all students attending camp will benefit from the novel presented. Studies have shown that the critical analysis of longer reading materials enhances a student’s critical thinking skills. Each Novel Study class will include a combination of comprehension questions, vocabulary development, writing responses, figurative language and a final assessment. This camp is a great way to help your student discover their love of reading.

Back-to-school Literature Skills

Our experienced instructors will provide a supportive learning environment to guide students through a reading and writing journey. Each child will receive creative writing and structured writing based on overall level. Students will read a variety of texts, engage in personal reflection as well as class discussion, and write thoughtful responses.

Paragraph writing using a five-sentence approach of:

  •   Topic sentence
  •   Detail sentences
  •   Conclusion

Grammar will also be implemented in each writing lesson.

Students will enjoy the interactive nature of the class while improving all areas of reading and writing. This camp is a wonderful way to prepare your child for the upcoming school year!
